Nutty Protein Shake

Peanut butter

Image via Wikipedia

This smoothie is packed with protein and healthy fat, great for a pre or post work-out treat.

1 frozen banana (gotta be frozen to get the right consistency!)

1 cup non-dairy milk (try coconut milk — the good stuff — if you’re feeling naughty)

3 tbsp silken tofu

2 tbsp organic peanut butter

1 tbsp ground flax seeds (gotta be ground!)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Variation: Make it a mocha-  Add 1 tbsp cocoa powder and 2 tsp granulated instant coffee.

Do you have any suggestions for replacing the banana? I have a wicked allergy.

A cup of frozen mango gives it a similar consistency but of course a different flavor!

Have you tried just making Banana “Ice cream” (just frozen bananas crazy blended up)? We do that a lot and it is delicious. I need to try this because I am addicted to peanut butter.

Now that I’m armed with both a blender and food processor, I definitely need to step up my smoothie game. I shall be returning to your site before my next grocery store shopping spree.
